Ground Location for Tan Wire
Connect the tan ground wire to a clean engine ground point, such as:
- Intake manifold bolt
- Cylinder head bolt
- Engine block ground stud
- Coil bracket only if it has a verified metal-to-metal ground path
Do not attach the tan wire to painted, coated, or insulated surfaces.
Notes
- Distributor requires a full switched 12V source during both crank and run.
- Ignition box is not required for standard Ready-to-Run installations.
- Gray wire is only needed when a tachometer is being used.
- Poor grounding of the tan wire can cause intermittent ignition or no-spark conditions.
Fact Check
