Ground Location for Tan Wire

Connect the tan ground wire to a clean engine ground point, such as:

  • Intake manifold bolt
  • Cylinder head bolt
  • Engine block ground stud
  • Coil bracket only if it has a verified metal-to-metal ground path

Do not attach the tan wire to painted, coated, or insulated surfaces.

Notes

  • Distributor requires a full switched 12V source during both crank and run.
  • Ignition box is not required for standard Ready-to-Run installations.
  • Gray wire is only needed when a tachometer is being used.
  • Poor grounding of the tan wire can cause intermittent ignition or no-spark conditions.

Fact Check
