# Why Does My New BluePrint Engine Smoke After Installation?

### *** Is Smoke Normal After Initial Startup?***

 

**Yes, some smoke can be normal during the first startup and heat cycles.** Common sources include:

- Oil residue from assembly
- Fingerprints or oils on headers
- Paint and coatings curing on exhaust components
- Small amounts of spilled oil during installation

This type of smoke typically decreases as the engine reaches operating temperature and is driven. How Do I Know If The Smoke Is Normal? Normal burn-off smoke will usually:

- Come from the outside of the engine or headers
- Have a light odor
- Gradually decrease with engine run time
- Not affect engine performance

If the smoke becomes heavier or continues after multiple heat cycles, further inspection may be necessary. When Should I Be Concerned? Inspect the engine if you notice:

- Oil dripping onto headers or exhaust components
- Coolant leaks
- Persistent smoke after several drive cycles
- Burning oil smell that does not improve
- Low oil or coolant levels
- Smoke coming directly from the exhaust pipes

These symptoms may indicate a leak or another issue that should be corrected. What Should I Check? Verify the following:

- Valve cover gaskets
- Intake manifold seals
- Oil pressure sender connections
- Rear oil pressure port fittings
- Oil filter seal
- Coolant hose connections
