# What Fuel Octane Does My BluePrint Engine Require?

## Using the correct fuel octane is critical for engine performance, drivability, and longevity. Running fuel below the recommended octane level can lead to spark knock, detonation, loss of power, and possible engine damage.

### ***Small Block Chevy Engines***

### Pro Series Small Block Chevy Engines

Most BluePrint Pro Series Small Block Chevy engines require:

**91+ Octane**

Examples include:

- PS4272CT1 Series

 Big Block Chevy Engines

### ***Pro Series Big Block Chevy Engines***

Most BluePrint Pro Series Big Block Chevy engines require:

**91+ Octane**

Examples include:

- PS502CT Series

### ***Small Block Ford Engines***

### Pro Series Small Block Ford Engines

Most BluePrint Pro Series Small Block Ford engines require:

**91+ Octane**

Examples include:

- PSF4271CT
- PSF4271RCT

### ***LS Engines***

Most BluePrint LS engines require:

**91+ Octane Premium Fuel**

BluePrint Motorsports engines are designed for maximum performance and may require race fuel.

### BPMS396CT

Fuel Requirement:

**100+ Octane Race Fuel**

This engine is intended for extreme-duty performance applications and should not be operated on standard pump gasoline.

 Can I Run Higher Octane Fuel?

Yes.

Using fuel with a higher octane rating than required is acceptable.

Examples:

- Engine requires 91 octane → 93 octane acceptable
- Engine requires 91 octane → race fuel acceptable

Higher octane fuel will not damage the engine.

 Can I Run Lower Octane Fuel?

No.

Using fuel below the minimum recommended octane level can cause:

- Detonation
- Spark knock
- Loss of power
- Potential engine damage

Always use the minimum octane rating specified for your engine.
