What Fuel Pump Pushrod Should I Use On My BluePrint Engine?

Selecting the correct fuel pump pushrod is important when installing a mechanical fuel pump on your BluePrint Engine. Using the wrong pushrod material or length can cause premature wear and fuel delivery issues.

Small Block Chevy (SBC)

Most BluePrint Small Block Chevy engines using a mechanical fuel pump should use a hardened steel fuel pump pushrod.

applications should use a quality hardened steel or chromoly fuel pump pushrod designed for BBC mechanical fuel pump installations.

Can I Use a Bronze-Tip Fuel Pump Pushrod?

No.

BluePrint does not recommend using a bronze-tip fuel pump pushrod. The bronze material is softer than the hardened camshaft eccentric used in our engines and may wear prematurely. A hardened steel pushrod is the recommended choice.

Does My Engine Include a Fuel Pump Pushrod?

It depends on the engine package.

  • Engines equipped with a mechanical fuel pump will typically have the pushrod installed. 
  • Engines not equipped with a mechanical fuel pump may not include a pushrod. 
How Do I Install the Fuel Pump Pushrod?

For most Chevy applications:

  1. Remove the retaining plug below the fuel pump mounting location. 
  2. Insert the fuel pump pushrod into the bore. 
  3. Verify the pushrod moves freely.
  4. Install the mechanical fuel pump.
  5. Verify proper fuel pressure after startup.
