BluePrint long blocks, dressed engines, and complete engine packages are dyno tested before shipment. Short blocks are not dyno tested because they are not complete running engine assemblies. If you did not receive a dyno sheet with your long block or dressed engine, contact Customer Support with your engine serial number. ### *** Why Doesn't The Dyno Tune Work Perfectly In My Vehicle?*** Our dyno cell provides a controlled testing environment. Once the engine is installed in your vehicle, many conditions change, including: - Vehicle weight - Transmission type - Rear gear ratio - Tire size - Altitude - Humidity - Air temperature - Fuel quality - Exhaust system design - Intake system design Because of these variables, final tuning must be performed in the vehicle. ### ***Is My Carburetor Already Adjusted?*** The carburetor is not set up and operated during dyno testing, but it is not custom-tuned for your specific vehicle. Minor adjustments may be required after installation. This is normal and expected. ### ***What Adjustments Might Be Needed?*** Depending on your installation, you may need to adjust: - Idle speed - Idle mixture - Ignition timing - Float levels - Accelerator pump settings - Jetting Most engines only require minor adjustments. #### ***Does Altitude Affect Carburetor Tuning?*** Yes. An engine operating at sea level may require different carburetor settings than the same engine operating at 5,000 feet elevation. This is one of the most common reasons additional tuning is required after installation. #### ***Does Weather Affect Carburetor Tuning?*** Yes. Changes in: - Temperature - Humidity - Barometric pressure can affect air/fuel ratios and engine performance. Does Needing To Tune The Carburetor Mean Something Is Wrong? No. Minor carburetor and timing adjustments are a normal part of the installation process and do not indicate a defect with the engine or carburetor. #### ***Frequently Asked Questions*** ### Will I need to check ignition timing? Yes. BluePrint recommends verifying ignition timing after installation, even if the distributor was installed and timed during dyno testing. ### Why does the engine run differently than it did on the dyno sheet? The dyno cell environment, fuel, exhaust system, and operating conditions are different than those found in your vehicle. ### My engine is advertised as turnkey. Does that mean no adjustments are needed? No. All engines should have timing verified and carburetor settings checked after installation. ### Can elevation affect engine performance? Yes.
