ZF Transmission Shifter Communication & Park Lever Troubleshooting

Production Action Required Important: Ensure all ZF transmissions leave production in PARK. The park release lever must be positioned as shown in the reference image/assembly documentation under: "Proper Position for Park Release Lever Disengaged" Failure to ship transmissions with the park release lever in the correct position may result in shifter communication concerns and flashing LED conditions.

Warranty Troubleshooting Procedure

Condition A

Customer reports:

  • Shifter LEDs completely off, OR
  • Shifter LEDs intermittently flicker

Verify the following at the shifter with the key ON:

  • Red wire: 12V Power
  • Black wire: Ground
  • Pink wire: 12V Ignition

If all three circuits are verified:

Action:

  • Have the customer swap the two CAN wires at the bulkhead connector.
  • These are the two striped wires entering the 12-position bulkhead connector.

Condition B

After swapping the CAN wires:

  • Shifter LEDs now illuminate
  • LEDs are flashing

Action:

  • Inspect for a park release lever issue.
  • Verify the park release lever is in the correct position:
